General Assembly to Begin Soon

The Virginia General Assembly will convene on January 13, 2016, and be in session for 60 days.  Legislators are already pre-filing bills (see www.vpap.org) and we expect some "unfriendly" environmental measures, such as bills to thwart President Obama's Clean Power Plan, designed to curb greenhouse gas emissions and slow climate change.

On January 9 at 9 a.m., the  Fairfax County delegation to the 2016 Virginia General Assembly will hold a hearing at the Fairfax County Government Center to consider suggestions for the coming session.  This is a great opportunity for Auduboners to express their concerns about the state of our environment.

The Virginia Conservation Network (VCN) at www.vcnva.org has  a rundown of the major issues.  VCN will hold a lobby day in Richmond January 24-25.  They will brief attendees and offer advocacy guidance.  VCN seeks people to help on advisory committees for each legislator.
