What Kind of Parks Do You Want? Comments Sought

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) has published the draft Great Parks Great Communities Parks and Recreation System Master Plan, available at Great Parks Great Communities Park Authority Master Plan.  It is important for county officials to hear people’s views and recommendations.

FCPA officials will receive public comments on September 12, 2017 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Green Spring Gardens, 4603 Green Spring Road in the Annandale-Alexandria area.   The Park Authority will accept comments until September 22.

The ASNV Advocacy Committee has met with FCPA staff and shared some concerns.  For more information, contact Samantha Hudson, project manager, at samantha.hudson@fairfaxcounty.gov or 703-324-8726 or parkmail@fairfaxcounty.gov or 703-324-8662.

This document is the “first ever Parks and Recreation System Master Plan,” park staffers say. They have shared some blog posts here.

FCPA describes the goal as follows:  “With a 10-year time horizon, the Great Parks, Great Communities Parks and Recreation System Master Plan will guide the agency to meet growing and changing community needs. This long-range, comprehensive park system master planning effort builds on the findings from the Parks Count! Needs Assessment that was completed in spring 2016. The master plan is also an essential part of ensuring the Park Authority achieves world class standards as required for re-accreditation by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).”
