Always lovers of the outdoors and nature; Marilyn and her husband, Sam Schaen, got their first taste of birding on a trip to Maine about 20 years ago. From the start, they were hooked. As avid photographers, the fit between photography and birding was a natural and their interest mushroomed. Marilyn and Sam love to travel for their photographic hobby and have been to Africa, Scotland, Antarctica, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Canada and numerous national parks in the US pursuing their hobby. Marilyn is retired from a career in marketing. She currently edits the ASNV newsletter. She also volunteers at Huntley Meadows and the Fairfax County Animal shelter.
