A collaborative project between the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and George Mason University is looking for volunteers to identify bird calls from sound recordings collected around the Front Royal area in forest and grassland habitats. The purpose of the project is to improve our ability to gather biodiversity data in different ecosystems through sound files. The sound files are all available online so you could help out from the comfort of your home. This is a great opportunity for those wanting to practice birding by ear in the off season as many of these files are collected during the dawn chorus. If you’re interested in helping with this project please send an email to Justin Cooper at CooperW@si.edu.
