I’ve been enjoying birding for nearly eight years now, the last six as my prime hobby in retirement after 37 years of Federal service at the Interior and Defense Departments. I’ve volunteered at a bird banding station, attended various local bird walks, led bird walks with the Northern Virginia Bird Club, ASNV, Friends of Dyke Marsh, and birded in over half of our states, including Florida, Texas, and Alaska. I’ve participated in four different local Christmas Bird Counts (CBCs), and served as interim compiler once. I’ve also enjoyed being a member and going on field trips with the Virginia Society of Ornithology.

I’m happy to be transitioning to the compiler role on the Manassas-Bull Run CBC thanks to the expert support from long-serving outgoing compiler Bob Shipman and the ASNV staff.  The task is really not too difficult, provided that there are experienced experts to hold down the key positions as sector leaders. I’m honored to have those positions covered by great veterans Jay and Carol Hadlock, Carolyn Williams, Greg Butcher, Toby Hardwick, and Dixie Sommers.
